National Gallery of Victoria

I went to the NGV today. There were many amazing artworks, but Ron Mueck’s Mass is just incredible. This installation consists of 100 giant skulls made out of fibreglass piled into a room. What I find most incredible about these skulls is they are all slightly different. Some are missing teeth, some have chips in the surface, and there is a slight variation in the colours of the skulls. There is a personal touch to each of the 100 skulls, which you don’t get with mass-produced objects. Each of the skulls has been handmade with love and purpose. This is what I love about art. It’s not perfect and it’s personal.
